In the late 60s, Val Carr founded Cicorel (London) Ltd, and the fundamental principles on which the company was based are still in place today. Attention to precise detail and accuracy, high standards of work and quality assurance provided the foundations for a company which is now working with leading suppliers across multiple industries and sectors. Now with our manufacturing facilities based in Dorset, UK, Cicorel specialises in the production of very small complex components, medium size machining and fully assembled products.
1967 Cicorel (London) Ltd was founded by Val Carr, using his training in watch and clock making. He began to make and sell through-hole printed circuit boards within the UK and designed and manufactured the Cicorel patented rotary action test pin.
1975 Cicorel moved to Somerset, combining its expertise in established techniques of precise work with new technologies.
1992 Continued growth led to a move in 1992 to larger premises in Sherborne, Dorset.
1998 Val Carr retired and his son Robert succeeded him as Managing Director.
1999 Nathan Davis employed on the Modern Apprentice Scheme.
2000 A new purpose-built engineering site was opened in Sherborne, with investment in new machinery and an enlarged team of experienced engineers.
Tricorn Job Management System introduced.
2002 Cicorel achieved accreditation of ISO 9001/2000.
2003 Apprenticeship position awarded to James Scard.
2004 Cicorel began its association with Swiss fibre optic specialists Diamond and became their UK representative.
2005 Continued investment in machine tools with 2nd Hardinge Elite 8/51 3 axis CNC Lathe commissioned.
2006 Apprenticeship position awarded to Mike Robinson. Bridgeport 760 4 Axis CNC Mill commissioned.
2007 James Scard completed his apprenticeship and Tom Rabbetts selected as the companies latest apprentice.
First Doosan Puma 280 purchased from Mills CNC.
2008 5 Axis Milling capability established with purchase of Doosan DNM650 with Nikken 5 Axis unit.
2009 Workshop reorganised into cells and Edgecam CAM system commissioned.
2010 Good growth in Aerospace and Oil & Gas sectors sees purchase of 2 x Doosan Lynx 220LM CNC Lathes.
Lewis Cabell starts apprenticeship.
2011 2nd Doosan DNM650 with 5 Axis Nikken unit added to workshop to increase capacity of complex milling work.
2012 2 x Doosan Lynx 220LSYA Twin Spindle Y Axis Lathes, Doosan Puma 2600 and Doosan DNM500 CNC Milling machines added to workshop.
Administration, Assembly, Final Inspection and Despatch moved into Unit 4 Coldharbour Business Park.
Joe Collard starts apprenticeship.
2014 Biggest investment to date with the purchase of Doosan MX2100 Mill/Turn B Axis Machining Centre.
Jack Bailey starts apprenticeship.
2016 2nd Mitutoyo CNC CMM added to final inspection department.
2017 To celebrate 50th anniversary of Cicorel (London) Ltd we had a summer family fun day for the families of staff past and present.
2018 Matt Hammett starts apprenticeship.
2019 Installation of Doosan Puma GT3100 in September to increase diameter capability of turning.
2020 Installation of Citizen L20X Sliding Head in May.
James Hael starts apprenticeship.
2021 Installation of Sylvac - S145 Laser scanner, assisting in increase in inspection volumes & improved accuracy.
2022 Office move to 3B on the Coldharbour Business Park.
